Newport’s landmark Shire Hall has been sold to a private investor with planning in place to turn the Grade II listed property into 18 apartments.
We handled the sale of this iconic civic building on behalf of receivers BDO, negotiating a price of £415k for its 18,000 sq ft of space.
Historic Grade II listed building
Located in the Pentonville area of the city, Shire Hall was the former Monmouthshire county council offices which were built in 1902 to the designs of the architect William Tanner.
The building underwent a substantial extension in 1913 to 1914, adding a top storey to the Shire Hall and adjoining Queen’s Chamber. In 1998 the hall gained Grade II listed building status in recognition of its historic and architectural qualities.
Following a long period of disrepair after the local government reorganisation, it was restored and converted into office suites, but has since been vacant for many years.
Proposed office-to-residential conversion
The proposed scheme could see the four-storey building converted into 11 one-bedroom apartments and seven two-bedroom flats with a reception area and bicycle storage area.
