James was promoted to Director and head of the Valuation Department at LSH’s Leeds office in 2014 at the age of 30, and is currently the youngest director in the firm. This is an achievement the judges wished to acknowledge alongside his ability to manage major private and public sector contracts and taking a lead on large complex portfolio valuations.

James is also a member of LSH’s Mentor Scheme and works closely with recently qualified surveyors in order to ensure key skills and career aspirations are developed for the personal benefit of individuals and the company. 

RICS judges were impressed with James’ commitment to inspiring the next generation, including encouraging students to fully experience surveying through placements and raising awareness of the opportunities available in the industry, making him an exemplary role model for the profession.

Matthew Scrimshaw, Head of LSH’s North Region, said: “James is a credit to LSH and embodies everything that all young surveyors entering the profession should want to aspire to. 

“LSH has a strong cadre of young talent across its 35 offices, and James is a great example of how this is encouraged and developed within the firm.”

James said: “I am delighted to have won such a prestigious national award, that embodies my career development and commitment to the profession and north region over the last 10 years.

“To be nominated by peers and recognised by the RICS is the ultimate compliment, particularly when the calibre of those shortlisted is so strong.  LSH is committed to attracting and developing innovative thinkers and I hope this award inspires others to believe in their career aspirations and follow a similar path.”

Also shortlisted alongside James were Katy Brindley, who heads up Property and Facilities Management across Yorkshire and the North East, and Gemma Butler, who is a Senior Surveyor in the Industrial & Logistics agency team in Birmingham.

RICS is the world's leading professional body for qualifications and standards in land, property, infrastructure and construction. The event took place at the Hilton London Bankside on Friday 18 November.
