Acting on behalf of Vastint - part of the Inter IKEA Group - Lambert Smith Hampton has acquired the former Carlsberg Brewery site in Leeds.

Vastint plans to bring forward the redevelopment of the 8.5 Ha site in Leeds South Bank Central in line with the aims and objectives of the Leeds City Council South Bank Planning Statement to create a vibrant, well connected and sustainable residential and business community.

The Tetley, in the centre of the main site, remains in the ownership of Carlsberg UK and will continue in operation. Carlsberg UK will retain a presence in the office building on site at Tetley’s House.

“We are excited about securing this opportunity in Leeds, which is a key milestone in the growth of Vastint’s operations in the UK. It is really special to have the chance to contribute to the regeneration of the South Bank area, having the potential to bring considerable benefits to the city,” said Andrew Cobden, Managing Director, Vastint UK Services Ltd. “We’re looking forward to engaging with all key stakeholders to bring forward a scheme that is in step with the council vision”.

Bruce Ray, Corporate Affairs Director, Carlsberg UK said: “Over recent months we have completed a review of all of the proposals submitted by interested parties. We are pleased to have agreed a deal with Vastint, whose plan carries with it a commitment to respect the site’s history and heritage. We’d like to express our gratitude to all of the interested parties and local stakeholders that we have been working with so closely during this period. We now look forward to supporting Vastint on the next stage of the process.”

The Brewery site is the second large scale mixed use development in the UK undertaken by Vastint, the first being Strand East, a 10 Ha development in Stratford, London.
