The WCs, being sold by Bath and North East Somerset Council, achieved a total of £76,000 at LSH’s London auction on Monday (8 December 2014).

Both blocks had a reserve price of £9,000 but significant interest from potential buyers saw the first 750 sq ft (75 sq m) single-storey block in Bradford Road, located at the end of a busy retail parade, sell for £48,000.

The second one single-storey block in Dominion Road, which is immediately opposite Bath City Football Club, and close to local shops, sold for £28,000. Sub-divided into three sections, the block comprises
490 sq ft (45 sq m).

The details of the buyers have not yet been released.

Simon Riggall, LSH auctions director and auctioneer, said with the appropriate planning permissions, interested parties had suggested the lavatories could potentially be converted into small offices, a fast food bar, or storage facilities.

“There was considerable interest in the two lots and I’m not surprised by that because people love a quirky purchase and we have sold similar in other areas of the country for far more than the reserve price,” he said.

“We don’t know what the buyers’ plans are for the two sites but I have no doubt that people living and working near to the two blocks will be interested to see what happens to them next.”

Former municipal toilet blocks sold by LSH at auction have been converted into nightclubs, offices, a restaurant, and a print shop.
