QR codes like this one can now be found on all fire doors in residential properties over 11 metres in height. It’s all part of the Fire Safety Act 2021, which came into force on 23 January 2023. The codes allow inspectors more easily to record information about the condition of each door, which in turn means that any repairs and alterations can be carried out more quickly.

So when you see our colleagues looking lovingly at these QR codes, you may think that they have rather – how shall we say? – niche tastes. However, they know that this technology will make life easier for landlords and, more importantly, help to keep their tenants safe. Perhaps they’re right to be excited after all.
