Their successes to date include the Aquatic Centre (now a public swimming pool); the Athletes’ Village now occupied as affordable housing; Here East, the communications building soon to be developed as a technology centre, and other re-purposed facilities.

Redevelopment of Hackney Wick

LLDC own neighbouring property in Hackney and Tower Hamlets and have appointed us to advise on the redevelopment of one of the capital’s fastest growing and most innovative creative communities: Hackney Wick.

Hackney Wick is home to Europe’s largest concentration of artists and creative companies. A fundamental element of the Olympic legacy is to support local business and create convergence between the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP) and the neighbouring areas to the benefit of the wider community.  Hackney Wick will undergo transformation as part of this initiative.

Over the next few years, the district will benefit from a multi-million-pound upgrade of Hackney Wick station; the opening of Here East, a series of developments to support London’s flourishing digital and creative industries; and a distinctive range of new retail and leisure facilities.

Ground breaking public/private partnership

As the LLDC’s lead adviser, the strategic support that our multi-disciplinary team provides guides the client on all aspects of this complex, high stakes project. Our role is to work with the planning team to produce a master plan that is viable, is of interest to developer partners and in due course we will provide property advice into the procurement and selection of their development partner.

The 1m sq ft scheme includes employment space, studios, leisure and residential uses focused around the station and the River Lee Navigation. The scheme will include a combination of restored heritage buildings and new build that will combine to create a vibrant 24/7 mixed use economy.

The area has featured on TV and in the press and was used as the backdrop to the 2013 Google advertising campaign. It is set to be one of the most fashionable locations to live and work in East London with the bonus of the QEOP amenities on its door step.

The significance of the scheme to East London is also highlighted by the interest of Hackney Council with whom LSH are leading on guiding LLDC and the Council in establishing a ground breaking public/private partnership.
