Originally built in the late 18th century, Crescent Gardens has been used as council civic offices since the 1930s. However as part of the council’s relocation strategy to move into a purpose built Civic Centre on its Knapping Mount site, the building has been sold to local property company Adam Thorpe Property Group PLC.

The purchaser’s proposal is to transform the building into 14 exemplar private residences, together with creating an art gallery within the buildings central civic spaces, and restaurant within the ground, subject to planning.

Adam Varley, Director of Office Agency at LSH, commented:
"During the marketing campaign we received a significant amount of interest in the property, owing to the rarity of purchasing a building of this calibre and its prime town centre location. Following a competitive bidding process, we are pleased to have been able to secure a deal which not only delivers best value for our client, but also has a wider economic benefit for the town.
