Facilitating the roll‑out of a rapid expansion programme

As the country’s leading consumer delivery specialist, Hermes UK recognised the need to adapt to the continued growth and development of e‑commerce by conducting a complete transformation of its operating model with a new ‘hub and spoke’ approach.

Having been trusted advisors to Hermes UK for several years, we were tasked with assisting with the expansion of its national portfolio of distribution hubs.

The brief was particularly challenging as existing buildings with sufficient yard area and loading access to satisfy Hermes UK’s specific search criteria were highly sought after and in scarce supply. However, utilising our national network of offices and in‑depth local market knowledge, we acquired two depots across the North of England, including a 70,000 sq ft facility in Liverpool and a 55,000 sq ft temporary facility in Bradford.

We also acquired a built‑to‑suit development for a new 153,000 sq ft distribution hub in Warrington, which involved the introduction of an investor through our capital markets team in order to facilitate the deal – one of many examples of how our joined‑up approach solves our clients’ complex problems.

Our work has helped provide Hermes UK with a significant competitive advantage by reducing transportation costs, improving environmental performance and doubling its capacity to meet increasing levels of customer demand.
