Smithfield Lofts, a c 700 unit residential regeneration scheme has been granted planning permission by Birmingham City Council. The project in Digbeth, Birmingham will also provide a range of commercial spaces, amenities and green infrastructure.

Our urban design & masterplanning team worked with Glancy Nicholls Architects, PJ Planning, and Prosperity Developments to provide advice from the pre-planning applications stage through to outline planning permission. This extended to include an urban design appraisal of the scheme and massing study options which were successfully presented to Birmingham City Council, informing the approved design in regards to height, built form and layout; critical in justifying the building heights proposed, the location of height and the relationship the proposed scheme would create with the surrounding buildings and streets.

Rob Clarke-Jones, urban designer at LSH, commented: "We are proud to have worked on this scheme with a range of leading partners from across the sector. Smithfield Lofts will revitalise the Digbeth area and provide much needed housing accommodation, whilst also supporting the local economy."
