We marketed the 32-bedroom hotel on behalf of ESA Leisure Limited, with a guide price of £3.5m freehold.

The thatched manor house hotel, which currently holds four AA stars and two AA rosettes, incorporates a fine dining restaurant, extensive public areas and a banqueting suite, and is a renowned wedding venue.

ESA Leisure Limited had owned the business since 2008 and invested heavily in its establishment as a high quality destination. Company director, John Smith, said: “Shepherd Cox has a great track record as an operator so we are confident that they will take the business from strength to strengths and build upon the success we have already established”.

Simon Stevens, a director within our specialist hotel consultancy division, which handled the sale, said: “Wroxton House is an exceptionally well-managed, maintained and profitable business in a delightful location, close to many popular tourist destinations and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

“Consequently, it attracted a great deal of interest which ultimately allowed our client to select a preferred bidder who not only agreed to meet their price expectations, but also gave them confidence on deal delivery.

“Buyers remain active and prepared to compete for good quality, profitable businesses particularly where they can add future value”.

Nick Carlile, one of the founders of Shepherd Cox , said: “We are pleased with this addition to our hotel portfolio. Wroxton House is a popular, high quality establishment which will undoubtedly prove to be a key part of our ongoing success and future expansion plans”.
