The work, which is scheduled to complete in June 2017, will see the creation of a large 17,000 sq ft unit over two floors as well as extensive modernisation of public areas and the reconfiguring of several units to improve shopper experience and facilitate modern retailer requirements. As part of the work, a major redevelopment of the food court on the first floor will be undertaken which will provide four new restaurant and café units.

Lambert Smith Hampton is already in discussions with several international brands for potential letting opportunities of the large unit.

Located in the heart of Waterford, City Square is laid out over two main retail floors and comprises a two storey Dunnes Stores food and clothing store, a two storey Debenhams and 34 retail units and kiosks. The centre has the benefit of direct access to approximately 450 car parking spaces over two basement levels. Other retailers include River Island, Peter Mark, Eir/ Meteor and Holland & Barrett and the centre attracts an average weekly footfall of approximately 110,000.

At the end of 2017, both Specsavers and GameStop have relocated to larger units within the scheme with Inglot choosing City Square as their first store for the South East. JD Sports will commence the fit out of a 4,370 sq ft unit later this month.

Niall Delmar, surveyor at Lambert Smith Hampton, said: "We are pleased that work is progressing well to revitalise City Square and we look forward to placing a renewed focus on both food and fashion when the project completes later this year."

Mr Delmar concluded: “Lambert Smith Hampton has had a long standing relationship with City Square.  Our team oversaw the sale to the current owners in October 2015 as Douglas Newman Good Commercial and we were involved in the scheme since it was initially developed in 1994 by Sisk and then sold a year later to IBI Property Nominees Ltd by Edmund Douglas, now Lambert Smith Hampton. This year will be one of the most exciting for the centre so far and our client is committed to delivering an impressive customer experience.”
