John Lewis planning a distribution centre for West London

A 108,000 sq ft distribution centre is to be opened in West London by department store retailer John Lewis. A 25-year lease has been signed for the site at SEGRO Origin scheme in Park Royal. The distribution centre will cater for home delivery of large electrical items and furniture. Read more

 

Aldi secures planning permission for Cardiff distribution centre

Cardiff Council has granted planning permission to Aldi for its proposed regional distribution centre. The 42,200 sq m warehouse is to be built at Capital Business Park in Wentloog. This could create up to 400 jobs. Read more

Ocado to launch 20,000 sq ft depot in Liverpool

Ocado launched a 36,000 sq ft depot in Dagenham, Essex in September and in November will launch a 20,000 sq ft depot on the Knowsley Industrial Park, Liverpool . Read more

Barwood Developments and Potter Logistics strike JV

Barwood Developments has agreed a JV with Potter Logistics to deliver a logistics scheme in Knowsley Industrial Park. The 275,000 sq ft Draco scheme will house manufacturing and distribution units in premises of between 25,000-150,000 sq ft, with the units to be offered as leasehold or freehold. Read more

Wolseley may bid for Better Bathrooms

Wolseley may bid for Wigan-based retailer Better Bathrooms, which has seen sales rise to £31.1m in 2013, from £1m in 2007. The building materials business may make a £100m bid. Better Bathrooms, with sites in six cities and towns, is aiming in three to five years to have 25 showrooms. Read more

Omega Warrington secures permission for new base for online retailer

Reserved matters planning permission has been secured by Omega Warrington to provide a 686,000 sq ft shed for online retailer The Hut. The new premises will be within Zone 7 of Omega South and there will be the capacity for expansion for the shed on the 41-acre plot. Read more

Kuehne + Nagel plans warehouse move

Switzerland-based logistics group Kuehne + Nagel has struck an agreement with The Airport Industrial Property Unit Trust that will see it move to a Heathrow South Cargo Centre-based warehouse. The group will move into the 130,000 sq ft building early in 2015. Read more

Johnson approves Royal Mail's London residential scheme

The London mayor Boris Johnson has approved the plans of Royal Mail Group to build 681 new homes on its Mount Pleasant postal sorting site. Johnson approved the plan after the number of affordable homes in the project were increased to 163. Read more

London Gateway awards contract to Import Services

The UK based port logistics company Import Services has been awarded the contract to operate London Gateway's shared user warehouse facility DP World. The 386,000 sq ft facility will be in the London Gateway Logistics Park, which is due to be opened Q2 2015. Read more

Retailers set to dispatch record 900m orders in 2014

The August IMRG MetaPack Delivery Index shows orders were down 13.6% month-on-month amid a predicted lull in online retail. It still represents a 20% cumulative growth rate year-on-year. A 10% increase in order volumes and steady growth in the run-up to Christmas is expected, according to past e-retail delivery patterns. Read more
