The Hand Stadium in Clevedon, Somerset, is expected to fetch between £1m and £1.1m, according to national property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton, which is marketing the venue.

The stadium is home to Clevedon Town FC, a professional club founded in 1880 that plays in the Southern League Division One South & West.

ML Distribution, which owns the club, has now decided to sell its investment and to concentrate on its local portfolio. Since purchasing the club, it has invested large sums in modernisation and refurbishment.

The freehold property goes to auction on July 14 at the Millennium Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London, and comprises a high quality main stadium with floodlighting and covered standing for 300 spectators and further standing for 1,600.

It also has an adjoining 3G all weather surface training pitch, and a large modern detached clubhouse with home and away changing facilities, and match official and medical rooms.

Simon Riggall, director and auctioneer at Lambert Smith Hampton, said it was rare for a modern football stadium complex to go to auction:

“This is a fantastic investment opportunity for someone out there who wants to acquire a high earning investment whilst having an interest in a football stadium that has a vibrant future and lots of potential for income generation. There aren’t many investment opportunities where a call out on a Saturday can be fun.

“Clevedon Town FC is a long-established and well-supported club and its supporters are rightly proud of its history so it would be great to see someone who shares their passion for the game buying this bit of football heritage for the good of the local community.”

Two former schools are also being auctioned: Glantaf Infants School, Rhydyfelin, Mid Glamorgan and the former girls’ school at Aberdare, Mid Glamorgan.  Both are suitable for residential development, subject to necessary consents.
