Winston's Wish target motivates LSH runners

A team of 11 at LSH Bristol completed the city’s annual 10km run, to raise funds for a Winston's Wish - the leading childhood bereavement charity in the UK.

The cause was chosen by the team because of the work it did in supporting the family of a colleague whose sister died suddenly at Christmas, leaving a three-year-old son. “Winston's Wish has proven to be a lifeline in helping her young son and family begin to live with their loss,” said Darren Clarke, director at the Bristol office.

“It’s a charity that has become very close to our hearts. We are supporting it so it can continue to carry out its valuable work and help even more families.”

The participants split their team into three – the Harriers (Ed Smith, Matt Armstrong and Craig Wallace), the Huffers (Pete Cole, Pete Barrett, Wayne McNally and Mark Walters), and the Hobblers (Darren Clarke, Darren Sheward and Sam Brookbank). They trained hard for the past three months, including at lunchtimes, to be ready for the run.

They ran alongside colleagues from facilities management service company Almeda, which sponsored the team to take part, and 11,000 other participants. The team has also received sponsorship from BBi, which provides commercial fit-out solutions.

The  runners have already raised over £1,800. “We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported us but we’d love to raise as much as possible for this wonderful charity,” said Darren. “It helps 30,000 children every year through its support programmes and services. Every pound really helps.”
